Elevated Buffet Stations

Posted by Meetinghouse on 9/13/18 11:10 AM

Elevate your buffets and food stations this Autumby re-purposing unique décor pieces and transforming any display into something the whole family will enjoy.

Offer guests a beverage from your barrel top bar station. Inherently rustic and versatile, re-purposed wooden barrels are our favorite way to display classic Fall drinks. Lay a gingham runner under an urn of hot apple cider and arrange mugs within jars of jam and honey. We love rolling napkins with a garnish of cinnamon stick as a simple way to bring in the warm scents and textures of Fall that we love.

Create the perfect dessert station by utilizing a vintage wagon and draping a plaid fleece blanket inside of it to create the warm and rustic feeling. Display your guests’ favorite pies and jams here, serve on gold plates and platters, and embellish the inside of the wagon with seasonal flowers like dahlias, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers for additional fall color and texture. Finish up the display by adding old fashioned milk jugs, bushels of apples, and hay bales to the base of the wagon. Grandma’s classic apple pie is sure to stand out in this Instagram worthy setting.

Of-course along with food service comes seating and dining and we love carrying over unique elements into that aspect as well. Tree stumps can be an excellent alternative for outdoor seating. Simply drape a soft linen over top or an outdoor patio cushion and you now have a comfortable spot to enjoy your cider and pie!

Urban Harvest

Posted by Meetinghouse on 9/13/18 10:47 AM

There is nothing we love more than an unconventional contrast of elements, like a metropolis in the Fall. It seems that Mother Nature herself is attempting to blanket the manufactured aesthetic of the city in all her lush color and texture. This annual battle inspires us to achieve the same delicate balance in all of our event compositions.

Let your venue work WITH you by choosing a space that already exhibits modern and industrial elements like exposed brickwork, weathered iron, and cement to build the look on. Urban grunge Detail of whitewashed exterior brick wall, with filtered effects, for texture and background (seventh in a series of eleven)

Nothing says (or screams) metropolis like the ubiquitous graffiti art. Create a striking visual branding opportunity worthy for Instagram by bringing a vibrant graffiti wall as a focal entrance piece. Let guests be the artists by providing additional paint and markers a la Jackson Pollock to add their own unique touch to the piece. Bring the pop art element through the event and to the tables by utilizing cement containers with spray painted designs and bold monochromatic floral elements. Keep the overall color scheme neutral so the colors stand out!

Elevate the common buffet by arranging fall food favorites like late night urban street vendors. And who doesn’t love mini pies?! Absolutely no one. Guests will line up for hours.

Give a neighborhood staple new use by utilizing cyclone fencing it as open-air room dividers to break up the space and add additional interest. Balance the look by adding an accent of natural texture by way of rich and dramatic foliage. Smilax, olive, and bayleaf are wonderful choices as the latter also fill the room with subtle scent as well as a crisp texture.

The key to this look is b
alancing the old with the new, nature with industry, and the familiar with the unexpected to bring harmony to such a striking visual contrast.

Fall Color Story

Posted by Meetinghouse on 9/10/18 4:07 PM

Even though the warm summer air is making its exit and the cool harvest breeze is coming, that doesn’t mean that we have to put away all the fun bright colors that we love! (We need to make it through Winter SOMEHOW!) The experts over at Pantone, reinforced by designers in New York and all over the world, have established the colors for Fall and we are so excited to be seeing such bright and vivid colors to perfectly compliment a modern fall palette.

Pantone has set the Color of the Year as the cosmic “Ultra Violet”. Alone, it is already a staunch color to add to any setting representing intrigue and mystery and is a far cry from the playful “Greenery” or soothing “Rose Quartz and Serenity” of years past. However, even greater interest can be attained by pulling in complimentary colors from the fall 2018 color palette.

One of the simplest and most economical ways to bring a pop of seasonal color to an event setting is with linens such as tablecloths or napkins. Imagine dressing all your guest tables in a classic Autumn hue like Pantone’s “Red Pear” and then accenting with napkins in warm and vibrant “Valiant Poppy” to really draw the eye to the setting. Accent with steel grey flatware and cool blue glassware to ground the table and allow the pops of color to really shine! OrangeHarvestRose

Floral is another great way to incorporate new and interesting colors into the coming season. Take those same deep hued linens and add drama with a lush and styled floral centerpiece. Use a reflective gold vessel to hold luscious greens with pops of “Russet Orange” roses. Introduce coordinating shades of dahlias, zinnias, and other seasonal floral, add a few tea light candles around it and voila! You have a beautiful table that mimics the warm hues of an Autumn sunset!

Autumn Evening Picnics

Pumpkin Spice

The days get shorter while the shadows get longer, and pumpkin and cinnamon spice hang in the air at every coffee shop (...bakery, office, and bus stop for that matter). It can only mean one thing: Autumn is finally upon us! As one of our favorite times of year, the inspiration is bountiful and ubiquitous.

AdobeStock_178410950Play upon the natural aesthetic of the season and create an outdoor autumnal lounge area by utilizing organic textures. Tree stumps can provide natural seating for guests covered simply with a flannel or knit blanket. Alternatively, use those same flannels or colorful woven sarapes as runners down rustic farm tables or picnic tables. Richly hued floor pillows embellished with maple and elm leaves evoke a freshly fallen forest when layered upon antiqued rugs. If you favor more conventional seating options, use the tree stumps as end tables and embellish with some candles for warm light. Soften traditional sofas and chairs with a luxuriously knit blanket or faux fur and give guests a reason to gather in closer.

If the weather is inclement, and festivities are forced to be held inside, mimic the Autumn evening light by stringing amber hued café lights through-out the space for an intimate ambience. Flickering candlelight can extend the shadows even more across the space as guests dance about. Chandeliers, patterned light washes, and up-lighting are other great options to light a space and provide that seasonal warmth and texture.

Don’t forget about COLOR! Rich orange, fire-red, deep maroon, and burnt umber are all reminiscent of the season. Bring bright and bold hues inside by utilizing lush and dramatic seasonal foliage and fresh florals like dahlias, celosia, ruffled garden roses, chrysanthemums, and croton plants.

Autumn is a celebration! Celebrating the harvest, the season, and all-around togetherness – MORE is MORE! You can’t go wrong.
